Hair Care After Colouring

  • Avoid using henna as a conditioner for coloured hair.
  • Use shampoos and conditioners meant for coloured hair only (available in the market). Avoid deep cleansing shampoos
  • Use hair conditioner regularly since the colouring process tends to dry your hair out.
  • Avoid going out in the sun or swimming for at least 48 hours after colouring your hair. During the colouring process, your pores are open and thus very vulnerable to damage.
  • Always cover your head before you venture out in the sun. Especially if you have opted for lighter colours. The sunrays will bleach the colour. A UV protectant shampoo will help.
  • Also, always rinse your hair thoroughly in chlorine-free water after a swim.
  • If you are too busy to dedicate at least 15 minutes everyday to maintain your hair, never colour it in the first place.

The other side

If it's just covering your grey locks with say, a bottle of dye, then go ahead, and dab it on yourself. But if you are looking for something permanent, and something nice that could make your hair glint in the sun, it pays to put all that colour into the hands of a professionally trained beautician.
For one thing, the end results can get messy if you aren't sure of how to go about colouring your hair. Secondly, most off-the shelf hair colours contain standardised amounts of peroxide whereas for different tones and different hair textures, you need different percentages of peroxide - Anything from six to 12 percent. So for the most part it is better left in the hands of a professional.
