Blood Pressure

The force exerted by circulating blood on the walls of blood vessels is called blood pressure. The most common values of blood pressure in a healthy adult is approximately 120 mm Hg systolic and 80 mmHg diastolic. However, normal blood pressure varies from person to person. In some people, blood pressure levels fluctuate considerably, up or down to abnormal levels. As this can lead to other health problems like heart disease, it is important to keep blood pressure under control.

Some joint initiatives for high blood pressure are:
  • Don’t smoke.
  • Keep your weight at a healthy level.
  • Eat a healthy diet, emphasizing fruits, vegetables and low fat dairy foods
  • Engaging in physical activities.
  • Drink alcohol in moderation.

Here are some tips to avoid low blood pressure include:
    • Dehydration minimizes the volume of blood that causes a pressure drop. So, drink plenty of water.
    • After meal, go for a walk. This will help to bring blood levels back to normal.
    • After training, take time to cool. A sudden stop in the middle of a routine exercise can lead to a decrease in blood pressure.
    • The salt is good for people who have low blood pressure. The addition of salt intake can vary from person to person.
    • Consumption of alcohol is harmful to people with blood disease at low pressure. These people should drink healthy fruit juices or soft drinks only.

Before performing any of the above steps, make sure you first consult your doctor.
